Nothing was done to this photo and that’s the truth. These birds only stand on one leg most of the time. Every once in a great while you would see them stretch out that other leg, but not too often. The key part to this photo is having one of these birds handy. That’s pretty easy if you go the Desert Museum down here in Tucson, AZ. (That’s where this was taken) There was no real trick to getting this one. All you have to do is get the right exposure, focus, etc.
